New York Burger: Our Commitment to Certified Sustainability
Since we opened our doors in 2009, at New York Burger we have always had one goal: to offer our customers the best possible experience. We are guided by honesty, service, and responsibility—values that have accompanied us throughout our journey.
A Path Towards Sustainability
At New York Burger, we are aware of the importance of running our business responsibly, not only with our customers and employees but also with the environment in which we operate. That is why, in 2023, we began reviewing and improving our sustainability policies.
The result of this effort came in 2024, when we obtained the “Sustainable Restaurant” certification from AENOR, an achievement we are immensely proud of. This certification reflects our commitment to the environment and society, validating our proper management in terms of sustainability and our continuous improvement in key areas such as local sourcing, recycling, responsible consumption, and training. We are now working to renew this certification in 2025, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to sustainable excellence.

Our Pillars of Responsibility
Our sustainability commitment is aligned with the 10 Principles of the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), of which we are part.

For us, this translates into six pillars that guide each of our actions:
Quality: Our mission is to earn our customers’ trust. We strive to offer the highest quality products and ensure we listen to their preferences to exceed expectations.
Environment: We aim to be a benchmark for sustainability within the restaurant sector. To achieve this, we choose local suppliers with eco-friendly transport fleets and implement a “zero waste” policy to minimize food waste.
Innovation: We see innovation as the key to improving our products, staying at the forefront of available techniques and raw materials.
People: We consider our team the cornerstone of our success. We are dedicated to creating a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment, where every person has the opportunity to grow. We actively promote equal opportunities and professional development through internal promotion and continuous training. Our commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion is unwavering.
Community: We are actively involved in society. We collaborate with hospitality schools and support cultural integration, creating a welcoming space for everyone.
Commitment to Permanence: Throughout our 15+ years, we have demonstrated solid and prudent management. We reinvest our profits in the business to ensure long-term sustainability and maintain the quality that defines us.
Concrete Actions for a Sustainable Future
To meet AENOR’s demanding requirements, we have implemented a series of specific measures:
Responsible Sourcing: Our main meat suppliers (La Finca, El Encinar de Humienta, Campofrío) hold animal welfare and carbon footprint certifications. We prioritize fresh, local products, minimizing frozen goods. Most of our deliveries are made with electric or gas vehicles.
Healthy Nutrition: We have introduced a “green line” with vegetarian and vegan options, and we promote healthy cooking techniques such as smoking. Whenever possible, we recommend salads instead of fries and adjust portions to avoid food excess.
Waste Management: We hire a specialized manager for used oil and use returnable, recyclable, and biodegradable packaging, completely eliminating plastic. To reduce water and energy consumption, we do not use cloth tablecloths. Additionally, we are switching to biodegradable, plant-based cleaning products.
Efficient Consumption: All new kitchen equipment has the highest energy efficiency rating (Class A), and we are gradually replacing older appliances. We have started installing solar panels for self-consumption in our restaurants and use low-consumption LED lighting.
Food Waste Reduction: We use recipes with precise weights and scales in every restaurant. Products from our central kitchen are vacuum-packed and pasteurized to minimize waste. Orders of fresh products are frequent, and dishes are prepared to order to avoid leftovers at the end of the day.
At New York Burger, we don’t just serve burgers—we are building a more sustainable future.
